Create accountDownload the app (or open Google Play) on your Android tablet or Android POS, such as a Sunmi, and install it. If it doesn't come from Google Play, allow installing from this source once. Open HorecaPOS and follow the steps on screen. The POS starts in your tablet's language, or in Dutch if that language isn't available.
Download the installer for Windows 10 or 11 and double-click it. Choose "for all users" (POS server with tablets and kitchen display) or "just for me" (just a POS on this PC). The installer sets up everything that's needed, including the database, and starts the POS. On the first screen you choose the language (Windows' language by default, otherwise English); the POS then starts in that language.
Download the installer (.pkg) for macOS 11 or later, for Macs with Apple Silicon and Intel. Double-click it; the first time, macOS opens it via System Settings, Privacy & Security, Open Anyway. Choose "for all users" (POS server with tablets) or "just for me". HorecaPOS POS, kitchen display and admin will then be in Applications. The installer speaks your Mac's language (otherwise English) and the POS starts in that language.
Download the graphical installer (.run) for any 64-bit Linux with systemd, make it executable and double-click it. Or choose the package for your distribution: .deb for Ubuntu, Debian and Linux Mint, .rpm for Fedora, RHEL, Rocky, AlmaLinux and openSUSE; double-clicking opens Software. The graphical installer first asks for the language (your system's by default, otherwise English); the packages use the system language, otherwise Dutch.
Use a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 (or a Pi 3 or 400/500) with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS with desktop; 4 GB of memory or more is recommended. Download the graphical installer for Raspberry Pi (.run), in the file manager choose Properties → Permissions → Executable and double-click it, or type bash HorecaPOS-*-linux-arm64.run in the terminal. Choose "for all users" (POS server with tablets) or "just for me". Prefer a package? sudo apt install ./horecapos_*_arm64.deb. HorecaPOS POS, kitchen display and admin will then be in the menu. HorecaPOS does not work on 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS; in that case, first install the 64-bit version with Raspberry Pi Imager.
Install the HorecaPOS Android app from Google Play on your Chromebook. It works as a POS on the Chromebook itself, with the built-in database, even without internet, or as an ordering screen for a POS on another device. A touchscreen is not needed: a mouse and keyboard work too. If you want several tablets on one POS server, put the POS on an Android POS, Windows PC, Mac, Linux PC or Raspberry Pi; other devices cannot connect to a Chromebook as a POS server.
The installers for Windows, macOS and Linux speak 42 languages, including Czech, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Russian, Serbian, Albanian, Persian, Tigrinya, Amharic, Somali, Papiamento, Sranan Tongo, Hindi, Urdu, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Syriac-Aramaic, Darija and Berber. They start in your computer's language, otherwise in English; on Windows and Linux you can choose another language on the first screen. The POS then starts straight away in the chosen language. Each staff member can still choose their own language with the flag.
By default the built-in database (PGlite): nothing to install. On Windows, macOS, Linux and Raspberry Pi you can also choose MySQL (8.0 or newer), MariaDB (10.6 or newer) or PostgreSQL, for example on your own server. Switching takes one button in the POS settings and brings all your data along; the POS makes a backup first. Backups are interchangeable: a backup from one database can be restored into any other. On Android the POS uses the built-in database.
